Picking A San Mateo Pool Contractor

If you are looking to improve the real estate value of your home in San Mateo then building a swimming pool is an excellent idea. Homes with swimming pools sell for a lot more money.

Once you have decided to build a pool, then contacting San Mateo pool contractors will be the first order of business. Home owners can search for San Mateo pool contractors through the yellow pages and the web. Most pool construction companies have websites that discuss the various projects that the construction company has recently undertaken.

Before settling down to any one of the San Mateo pool contractors, home owners need to find out how long the company has been in business. If they are a fairly new company, home owners may want to ask and find out more about the company and its history.

Home owners should always remember to ask whether the service people working for the short list of San Mateo pool contractors are properly certified. All pool builders should be certified as Certified Service Professionals. This certification is awarded to technicians by the Association of Pool and Spa Professionals.

Home owners should not rush into choosing their pool contractor. They need to do some comparison shopping among the various San Mateo pool contractors. It is always advisable for home owners to visit the showrooms of the different San Mateo pool contractors. By watching a sales person in action, the home owner will be able to determine if the sales team is knowledgeable.

Several of the San Mateo pool contractors have received awards for their pool construction projects. Home owners should check with their pool company to see if it has received any recent awards.

Sales staff belonging to various San Mateo pool contractors may offer various incentives to make the sale. Home owners should always get the offers down in writing and detailed in the contract.

As with all large purchases, home owners should read all the terms and conditions of the agreement before signing any contract with any of the San Mateo pool contractors.

Finally, before signing the contract with any one of the San Mateo pool contractors, home owners should check the company license with the state of California's registrar of contractors, the Contractors State License Board. On their website, home owners can check to see if the pool company has any complaints registered against it.

Home owners should be advised that it is against the law for San Mateo contractors to require more than 10 per cent of the contract price or $1,000, whichever is less, as a down payment.  Also, the contract needs to state that payments will be in the form of progress payments payable at the end of agreed upon phases of construction.  Home owners should check with the Better Business Bureau and the Contractors State License Board before signing a contract.
